Westside winds cause low visibility and power line problems
Friday night’s winds caused some headaches for westside drivers.
Storms in the area created an outflow of wind gusts that reached 50 to 60 mph.
N. Mesa Street heading west beginning at the intersection of Belvidere Street was closed off.
Officers on the scene didn’t give many details but did confirm the closure was weather-related.
ABC-7 spoke to a couple who were walking in the area and they said something had
fallen from the power lines and police asked them to stay away because of a
possible threat of electrocution.
ABC-7 reporter Josie Ortegon was on her way back from Timberon, New Mexico, and said drivers on I-10 were pulling over on the side of the road because the winds and visibility
were so bad.
Crews on Mesa Street continued working on power lines for several hours. The intersection has been reopened as of Saturday morning.
