Metro Verde Park splash pad defaced

Police are asking for information that leads to the arrest of the person or people responsible for spray-painting the six-week old splash pad at Metro Verde Park in Northwest Las Cruces.

Vandals graffitied benches, picnic tables, signs, and walls.

A parent ABC-7 spoke with is upset someone would damage something that has brought so much joy to her community.

“It’s very unfortunate that Las Cruces has this beautiful new splash pad, and our community has worked very hard to have it, and there’s people who can’t offer that same respect and can’t come and enjoy it and instead they have to place their mark and take away from the joy these children are enjoying,” Jaylene McIntosh said.

McIntosh said she will have to sit down and have a conversation with her children if they ask about the graffiti. “We don’t defame our property at home, we don’t write on the wall, we don’t write on the outside of our home, and so we respect the property that we have and so that is a conversation I would need to have with my children,” she said.
