approved to annex land from santa teresa. the 229 acre vacant lot is on mcnutt and country club roads. another portion is just north of country club. a private developer will build 886 homes within the next 7 years. but it’s also in the same area santa teresa residents one day hope to incoporate abc-7’s jamie warren was at tonight’s meeting. she joins us live things got heated during and after tonight’s meeting. after the vote, santa teresa residents i spoke with said they were upset. they remain passionate about not wanting sunland park in their territory. in a five to one vote council decided to annex the 229 acre lot. but the decision was met with a lot of opposition from the public. santa teresa residents told council they fear the development will make their property values go down. they’re also concerned about congestion taking over country club road. one woman said she fears emergency vehicles wouldn’t be able to get through with all the traffic. sunland park’s city manager said they’ll be looking into doing a traffic study with new mexico transportation. those who want santa teresa to become it’s own city say council should’ve waited until after the courts have made its final decision on incoporating. while some councilors agreed with their concerns. all except councilor olga nunez approved to annex at 150 thusand that’s going to depreciate the value of everyones homes my home and everyones homes in the country club that would cause more problems for not only santa teresa but also traffic jams in country club road if growth is going to happen constructioon is going to occur. when it comes to litigation our attornies feel it is in our favor to proceed with this particular matter the developer bill hagen did not want to comment afterwards. but during the meeting said his projects have never failed. he said he knows construction will take time, but families need places to live and he’s confident they will be satisfied with their homes. the el paso health department is reporting four heat-related deaths. the youngest was in their mid 30s. they were
