Convicted Felon Pleads Guilty To Federal Firearms Charges
A felon pleaded guilty in federal court Wednesday to violating federal firearms laws.
Police arrested Richard Isaac Quezada in March 2016 and charged him with being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition. A complaint states Quezada discharged a firearm in front of a residence, striking a vehicle.
Quezada was previously convicted of importation of marijuana, prohibiting him from possessing firearms. Knowing this, Quezada admitted that on March 14, 2016, he possessed a loaded handgun and more ammunition.
Federal officials said Quezada is expected to be sentenced to 5 years in federal prison pending his sentencing hearing, yet to be scheduled.
This was a joint investigation by the Las Cruces office of the FBI and the Las Cruces Police Department.
