Fire damage to northeast EP home estimated at $90K
A home in northeast El Paso went up in flames early Wednesday morning.
The El Paso fire department tweeted just after 4 a.m. that the fire was on the 4600 block of Tropicana Avenue.
According to emergency dispatchers, no one was taken to the hospital. However, emergency crews at the site of the fire tell ABC-7 a woman in her 70s was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. The fire department also reports that a firefighter sustained minor injuries battling the blaze.
The fire department has not said what caused the fire. Officials estimate the damage to be about $90,000. Fire crews say the blaze spread through about 80% of the home, also causing part of the roof to collapse. Officials say the fire also caused about $10,000 worth of damage to a neighboring home. That home is said to be 10% damaged from both fire and water.
Neighbors tell ABC-7 the home that initially caught fire has been left vacant, and they have noticed homeless persons and children often making their way into the property.
The fire department reports a total of 11 units and 30 personnel responded to this incident.
