Jim Valenti reaches his last day as CEO
Jim Valenti will leave his post as the CEO of University Medical Center on Friday.
In a letter to fellow employees, Valenti said, “I want you to know how much I am going to miss working with you, each one of you.
Valenti spent 12 years in charge of the county hospital. The 60-year-old is credited with expanding UMC and its services, as well as changing the name from Thomason Hospital.
Valenti also led UMC during a legal battle with El Paso Children’s Hospital, in which EPCH filed bankruptcy and filed a lawsuit against UMC. Valenti announced that he would not renew his contract in October, shortly after a settlement was reached with EPCH. County officials have never confirmed if Valenti’s departure was related to the deal with EPCH.
Valenti is being replaced by Jacob Cintron, who has served as Del Sol Medical Center’s CEO for the last 10 years. Cintron’s first day as CEO will be on Monday.
