Trial underway for man accused of kidnapping 12-year-old girl from Horizon High School football game, raping her
The trial for the man accused of kidnapping and raping a 12-year-old girl in 2014 continued Tuesday.
Carlos Antonio Holcombe, 45, faces aggravated kidnapping and rape charges, along with an indecency with a child charge. He has pleaded not guilty.
According to the complaint affidavit, Holcombe asked the girl to help him move some boxes at Horizon High School in August 2014. That’s when he allegedly put a gun to the girl’s back and forced her into his pickup truck. Court documents state Holcombe covered the victim’s eyes with duct tape and tied her hands and raped her. He then allegedly dropped her off at a movie theater located off Montana.
The trial is taking place in the 41st District Court with Judge Annabelle Perez presiding.
The jury, comprised of 9 women and 3 men, heard testimony from Cathlene Justice Tuesday, a sexual assault nurse and examiner at Sierra Medical Center. Justice told jurors about the kind of rape testing and exams she performed on the then 12-year-old victim.
The nurse said the victim told her she did not know the person that assaulted her, adding that the victim complained of pain in her abdomen, left knee, and both wrists. Justice added that there were linear marks on the victim’s forehead and knees where she had fallen getting in and out of the suspect’s SUV.
Justice then told the jury where on the victim she swabbed and took samples. Some jurors grimaced as Justice explained some of the tears on the victims genital area.
Defense attorney Joseph Vasquez did not cross examine Justice and passed the witness.
The prosecution then called Luis Carlos Estrada to the stand. Estrada identified himself to the jury as a surveillance specialist for the Clint Independent School District. He maintains he installs the video surveillance equipment for the district.
Estrada showed the jurors video of Holcombe’s SUV heading to Horizon High School and images of the victim walking towards the football stadium ticket booth. The video shows Holcombe and the victim running into each other at the ticket booth. The victim is then seen walking with the suspect towards his black SUV parked in the school’s parking lot.
The SUV is seen driving away with the suspect and victim inside.
Testimony resumes Wednesday.
