UPDATE: Police identify man killed in deadly hit and run; still looking for red truck

The man killed in a deadly hit and run crash in northeast El Paso Saturday night has been identified.

El Paso Police said Mario Chavez, 60, was crossing the 9300 block of Diana and was not in a crosswalk when he was hit by a red truck.

This happened Saturday around 8:30 p.m.

Police said the driver of the truck did not render aid and left the scene. Chavez was taken to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Special Traffic Investigators determined that the red truck may be a small to mid-size type truck and is asking anybody with information regarding the vehicle and driver that struck Mario Chavez and fled the scene to call El Paso Police at (915) 832-4400 or to remain anonymous to call Crime Stoppers at (915) 566-8477.

This is the 41st traffic fatality of 2016 compared to 29 this time last year.
