the extreme weather task force says it’s up to the community to be vigilant this summer. looking out for one another. abc-7 was there as the extreme weather task force delivered a fan to a local resident dealing with some hot days in her home. elia soledad– grateful for her new fan– will be able to stay a little cooler. grace ortiz– chairperson of the task force is a one-man band– with occasional volunteers. she says she tries to accommodate residents as soon as she gets a request. to make a request for a fan– you need to call 2-1-1 and provide your information. if volunteers are available the fan will be delivered. otherwise ortiz will make arrangements with residents to pick up the fan. most importantly– she says the fans are not just for the elderly: grace ortiz – chairperson extreme weather task force 6:40 – 6:51 “we are looking at the most vulnerable those most affected by the heat, which is small infant children, persons with disabilities. persons with no air in the room and elderly people who have certain medical conditions.” that number again– 211. the defense will present its case today in the trial of a man accused of kidnapping and raping a 12-year old girl. the victim took the stand yesterday — saying suspect 43- year old carlos holcombe, a former fort bliss soldier — forced her into his s-u-v at gunpoint. abc-seven was in the courtroom — and saw the girl fight back tears as she accused holcombe of tying her hands and feet and puttting duct tape over her eyes. she says she was driven to a home where he allegedly assaulted her. he then dropped her off at a movie theater. baltimore’s top prosecutor dropped charges against the three remaing officers connected with freddie gray’s death. but she blasted the city’s police department — saying the biased investigation led to the lack of convictions in the case. gray died after sustaining a neck injury while in police custody in april 2015. three of the six officers charged in the case had already been acquitted. this is file video from freddie gray’s arrest. his death triggered protests against perceived police brutality across baltimore. state prosecutor marilyn mosby said during a news conference yesterday — that investigating the police department — with help from officers in that very department — was problematic. but the police and other legal experts said — her motives to prosecute the officers was politically motivated. 6-07… weather and traffic on the 7s… high pressure aloft will increase over the area and limit thunderstorm activity a more isolated pattern thursday through saturday. isolated to scattered thunderstorms will occur into next week with seasonal temperatures expected. …abc-7 traffic track … now it’s time to take a look at the tx-dot traffic cams… after trying to kill a u-s president over 3 decades ago, the man accused of doing it u-s president over 3 decades ago, the man accused of doing it is now a free man— / plus— an amazing rescue caught on a police body camera. why the driver of the car is facing charges. and this is abc-7, where news comes first! the man who shot president ronald reagan in 1981, is headed home. a
