Behind the scenes at the Humane Society Telethon
Running the Save-A-Life telethon at the KVIA ABC-7 studios is a huge undertaking.
ABC-7 has a full crew running the telethon and the days news casts. ABC-7 also has a lot of dedicated volunteers doing different jobs just to make a difference for our furry friends.
In the control room, technical directors, producers and audio operators
take on a seven hour long show.
In the editing rooms, besides sifting through endless video, editors experienced a power bump that reset all the computers and they still manged to get all the video on air.
“It set us back about an hour,” editor Ivey Ruiz said.
In the studio, camera men, floor directors and sleepy dogs take over the set
In the newsroom 80 volunteers filled every desk taking on calls. Some of the volunteers are veterans of the telethon.
“I’ve been doing this about 15 years,” Esther Herrera said.
All of them do it for one reason and one reason only:
“I love animals and I love being able to give back to the community,” Rachelle Eastwood said.
Many volunteering for the telethon said it also creates a sense of friendship.
“I think it just brings people together, so they can just help as one to make a better world,” Brittanie Eastwood said.
The Humane Society of El Paso Save-A-Life Telethon raised $129,226.
