City hosting ‘Pokemon Go’ events this weekend

The city is hosting more ‘Pokmon Catch ’em’ events this weekend.

The Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting the events on Friday and Saturday. The first will be from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 26, at Pueblo Viejo Park located at 9300 Roseway Street.

The second will be from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27, at Veterans Park located at 5301 Salem Street.

Each event will offer prizes and giveaways, including Pokmon team hats. There will also be music, games, and charging stations provided by El Paso Electric.

The player who has the best picture with Pokmon in a participating park posted to the Parks and Recreation’s Facebook page with the hashtag #ParkemonEP will win a special award.

The two events are a follow-up to a packed crowd who attended the first Pokmon event at Eastwood Park last weekend. More Pokmon Catch ‘Em All events are planned and a schedule is posted on the Parks and Recreation website at www.elpasotexas.gov/parks.

The El Paso Police Department has the following safety tips for those who play “Pokmon Go:”
* Be aware of your surroundings and watch where you are going
* Do not drive a vehicle, ride a bicycle or skateboard while playing
* Do not trespass or enter onto property that is not yours
* Do not go out alone and always take a friend.
* Make sure somebody is aware of your whereabouts
* If you play at night, only go to well-lit areas.
