Father of hit-and-run victim: “We’re torn. We’re in a lot of pain. I miss my son.”
Authorities say a 6-year-old child has died after being struck by a hit-and-run vehicle in southern New Mexico.
Luis Villalobos, a spokesman with the Gadsden Independent School District, told ABC-7 the victim is Sebastian Angel Fragoso, a student at Gadsden Elementary.
“We’re torn apart, we’re in a lot of pain. I miss my son. I want to see my son, I want to see him running, but I can’t, I can’t, Sebastian’s father, Sebastian Fragoso said.
“Empy, I feel empty. He was a piece of my flesh,” His mother, Guadalupe Fragoso said.
His parents say the boy was smart, loved to play outside. He was full of life and had a laugh that could light up the room.
“When I came from work he would always go and find me, just his smile, his hugs, I can’t hug my kid anymore,” Fragoso said.
State police say the child was struck by a pickup truck while bicycling just down the block from where he lived, on a street near the intersection of Fourth and Putter Circle in Anthony, N.M. The driver fled the scene. Investigators described the pickup as a 2001-2004 white Ford extended-cab F-150 that may have damage to the passenger side’s front end. The boy was taken to the hospital where he died following surgery.
“They couldn’t do anything to save his life because he was so serious, his wounds,” Fragoso said.
Friday afternoon, neighbors and loved ones laid flowers and brought balloons to place at a makeshift memorial marking where he was killed.
His parents tell Abc-7 all they want is the person responsible to come forward.
“If somebody knows about anything, report them, report them to the cops, because help us, help us find him,” the boy’s father said.
“That they find him and turn him in. If any parents out there know of this, if they know anything, please don’t stay quiet. That they report him, that they see our pain & suffering. That’s what I want,” Fragoso said.
