Police told ABC-7 the hiker who died from a fall at McKelligon Canyon over weekend was 21-year old Richard Contreras.

Crimes Against Persons is investigating the death despite foul play not being suspected, police said.

The El Paso Fire Department was called to the scene shortly before 2 p.m. Saturday after getting a 911 call from a companion of the 21-year-old man who fell.

First responders visually spotted the two hikers and a combined-search-and-rescue team was immediately dispatched to reach them.

Firefighters made contact with the injured hiker within 40 minutes and began treating him. Within minutes, the hiker was airlifted to University Medical Center where he died shortly after arrival.
