EPPD: Beware of burglars posing as contract workers

Burglars are posing as contract workers to gain access into homes and steal valuables, the El Paso Police Department said Tuesday.

In the past week, there have been at least two incidents where elderly residents have been approached by two men asking for access to the backyard to prune trees or do some other type of work.

In one of the cases, similar to those earlier this year, one of the men distracted the homeowner while another entered the home and stole belongings.

Homeowners are cautioned to be wary of persons offering unsolicited services. Any person approached in this manner is asked to call police at 832-4400.

If safe to do so, police advise residents to get a description of the suspects, their vehicle, license plate number, and direction of travel.
