Veteran gets mortgage-free home, family relocating to Las Cruces
Sergeant Nicholas Hinds and his family got the keys to a newly renovated mortgage-free home Tuesday.
The home was donated by the U.S. Bank and Freedom Alliance, a charitable organization that provides help and support to injured service members and military families.
“My family and I are so grateful,” said Hinds. “A mortgage-free home will significantly help ease our financial challenges and give us a fresh start, both with our finances and surroundings.”
“U.S. Bank is extremely proud to partner with Freedom Alliance to present this home to Sergeant Hinds, a veteran who valiantly served our country,” said Craig Buchanan, community bank president for U.S. Bank in New Mexico. “This home is recognition of his service and sacrifice.”
The Hinds Family is the seventh family nationwide to receive a home through the program. They will relocate to Las Cruces.
The 1,938 square foot home has 4 bedrooms and 2 and a half bathrooms. It’s valued at around $170,000. The family applied for the home in March and found out it was theirs in May.
Hinds spent 15 years in the Armed Forces in both the Navy and Army, and was deployed five times. He now suffers from neck injuries and post traumatic stress.
