LCPD looks into ‘clown’ threat against middle school

Las Cruces police are looking into a threat against a school similar to clown-related posts on social media.

The post appears to target students from Lynn Middle School. It shows a picture of the school with caption that reads, “y’all people that go to Lynn are finna (sic) get dead omg save yourself.” The caption is followed by three skull emojis.

Las Cruces police say the social media account was uses a moniker with the word “clown” in it.

Las Cruces police believe the social media account and post simply was generated by a child or teen, simply for the attention. In a new release, the Las Cruces Police Department said neither it nor the Las Cruces Public Schools believe the “poorly-worded” threat is valid.

The social media platform on which the allege threat was posted was not disclosed, but it appears to be on Instagram.

Las Cruces police warned the public that anybody caught making a threat against a school could be charged with a felony count of committing a terroristic act.

The Department urges parents to monitor their children’s social media usage. Social media users are urged to refrain from “following: or “friending” users who post such threats and commenting on posts that contain threats as that could antagonize the perpetrator.

Anyone with information on a perceived valid threat against a school should call 911 immediately.
