Riverside Middle teacher charged with sexual assault
Police charged an El Paso educator with Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child and Improper Relationship Between Educator and Student.
Adam Lee Newport, 35, was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility in Downtown El Paso on bonds totaling $200,000. Detectives said the victim is a 13-year-old girl.
Newport resigned Wednesday, an Ysleta Independent School District spokeswoman said.
The district emailed ABC-7 the following statement:
“The Ysleta Independent School District has strict policies regarding inappropriate relationships between employees and students. If the district is made aware of a violation of these policies, an immediate investigation is initiated and proper action is taken in accordance with district policy.Adam Newport was a Special Education teacher and coach at Riverside Middle School since 2007. Mr. Newport is no longer an employee of the Ysleta Independent School District. For more information, please contact the El Paso Police Department as this is an ongoing investigation.”
A search of online records from the State Board for Educator Certification shows Newport is certified to teach health, physical education and special education.
