Doa Ana County sheriff’s deputies investigating murder-suicide

Deputies with the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a murder-suicide just west of Mesilla.

Investigators arrived at 2395 Mesilla Hills at about 9 a.m. Monday.

Deputies found the bodies of an elderly couple inside the home. The couple had reportedly been living together for more than 30 years.

A relative told investigators she received a call from the woman, who said the man, suffering from dementia, wanted to hurt himself. The relative arrived at the home to find the couple dead from apparent gunshot wounds to the head.

Investigators believe the man shot the woman in the head, before taking his own life.

Neighbors said the couple, in their 70s, kept to themselves and were very quiet.
