Hospitals of Providence’s teaching hospital nearly complete
The The Hospitals Providence Transmountain campus has been under construction since 2014; its doors expected to open early next year.
Drivers have probably seen the massive hospital going up in Northwest El Paso.
“I am so excited,” said Tasha Hopper, Chief Operating Officer.
Hopper along with Nicolas Tejeda, chief executive officer, gave ABC-7 a tour of the new Hospitals of Providence Transmountain Campus.
“The hospital and the surrounding buildings are built on 50 acres,” Hopper said.
The hospital itself is about 300,000 square feet powered by a massive maze of generators, heaters and coolers.
“We have 106 rooms, we have 15 emergency room beds. We have six labor and delivery beds and we have two C-sections rooms were you have your baby via C-section,” Hopper told ABC-7.
The labor rooms are spacious with a view of Northwest El Paso and the Franklin Mountains.
One of the six operating rooms is 900 square feet. Another room is specifically designed for cardiac procedures and another for real time imaging radiology.
The hospital even has a control room to monitor procedures in both operating rooms. “The buzz for this hospital is incredible,” Tejeda told ABC-7.
Not only is the hospital catching the eye of medical professionals, Tejeda said, but that of professionals.
“As a part of being a teaching hospital, we have an academic affiliation agreement with Texas Tech Health Sciences Center. We are a primary teaching site for that institution,” Tejeda said.
Tejeda said the hospital’s teaching mission will begin in May.
“We’ll be recruiting nearly 50 physicians to help train these (future) physicians elbow-to-elbow,” Tejeda told ABC-7.
Both Tejeda and Hopper said the hospital’s location will provide care for an under-serviced area in the community.
“If you live in northwest El Paso this is your hospital, if you live in southern New Mexico, if you live in between here and there this is your hospital,” Tejeda said.
Officials say the hospital will provide 300 jobs and they are still hiring. The hospital’s doors are expected to open Jan. 17.
