LCPD keeping an eye on shoppers, monitoring for any suspicious activity on Black Friday
As thousands are flocking to shopping centers this holiday season, it’s important to be aware of your surroundings.
On Friday, the Las Cruces Police Department had its Mobile Operations Command Center parked outside the Mesilla Valley Mall. Officers were patrolling the area for any suspicious activity.
The police department is also offering holiday shopping safety tips.
First on the list, don’t leave any electronic devices, valuables or merchandise visible inside your car. Avoid placing your purse in your shopping cart, and if possible pay with a card to avoid carrying a lot of cash.
But its not just shoppers that need to remain vigilant. Small businesses also need to take extra precautions, because police say the holiday season attracts shoplifters.
Jennie Fowler, owner of Crafts by Arky, greets every customer with a smile. But she says the thought of someone swiping her delicate crafts and holiday trinkets is concerning.
“I have ADT and I do have people that come in and watch me. sit with me, stuff like that,” Fowler said.
Police encourage you to keep an eye out for anything suspicious and of course call them if there are any problems.
