All eyes on Sun Bowl as UNC Quarterback’s NFL stock continues to rise

Football fans and media outlets in the Bay Area and Cleveland are looking forward to this year’s Hyundai Sun Bowl.

North Carolina quarterback Mitch Trubisky is projected by many football experts to be first quarterback drafted in next year’s NFL draft – if he declares.

The San Jose Mercury News published an article Tuesday indicating Bay Area fans – especially 49ers fans – are interested in this year’s Sun Bowl. “Trubisky, projected to be the No. 1 quarterback picked in the upcoming NFL draft, could be starting for the 49ers next season,” the paper reports.

CBS Sports’ latest Mock NFL draft board has the Cleveland Browns taking Trubisky with the number one overall pick. “The Browns are already honing in on Trubisky, an Ohio native and childhood Browns fan. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Trubisky has the tools and intangibles to excite but is a huge projection as an NFL franchise quarterback after only emerging UNC’s starter this season,” the CBS website reported Monday.

The Cleveland Browns currently have the NFL’s worst record at 1-14. The San Francisco 49ers have the second worst record at 2-13.

ESPN’s Steve Muench reports Trubisky has “all the physical tools as well as the accuracy and mental makeup to develop into a franchise starter.”

WCHL, THE radio station in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, reports the decision to declare for the NFL draft is weighing heavily on Trubisky: “As the UNC football team prepares itself in El Paso ahead of its Sun Bowl matchup against No. 18 Stanford, junior quarterback Mitch Trubisky faces one of the most important decisions of his young life.Should he stay or should he go?”

Trubisky is expected to announce his decision after Friday’s Sun Bowl against Stanford.
