Residents frustrated with lack of progress on old Las Cruces Country Club
The site of the old Las Cruces Country Club and golf course is unrecognizable, nearby residents calling it an “eyesore.”
A property once green and lush now sits littered with debris, weeds and crumbling walls.
The country club closed its doors in 2011 when it moved to a different location. The land was then purchased by a private developer, Bob Pofhal, who opened to build a new hospital.
Neighbors say they haven’t seen any progress on the land since late last year. “This hasn’t lived up to the promise,” Connie Potter said, adding a real-estate agent valued her home 20 percent less because of the construction.
“We all would love to see things happen faster. It’s a complicated project, very special, and it just takes time to put all the pieces together,” Pofhal said Friday.
The developer told ABC-7 financing for the first phase of the project, nearly $100 million, is in place. “I would think (groundbreaking) will be sometime in the next several months at the latest,” Pofhal said.
