More Borderland students travel to Washington D.C.
On Thursday morning, more Borderland students headed to Washington D.C.for the Presidential Inauguration.
Eleven students from Mission Early College High School and their chaperone arrived to El Paso International Airport in the early morning hours to board their 6 a.m. Flight.
ABC-7 was there as students checked in at the Southwest Airlines counter, all of them anxious for the trip to our nation’s capital.
The students, who are not old enough to vote, learned about the election process in class and held their own mock election.
Despite the election mudslinging and contrasting opinions, sophomore Brianna Lopez said it’s exciting to get the chance to witness history.
“I’m trying to stay as open minded as possible, you get all these different comments from so many different people, but yet we haven’t seen the other side,” Lopez said.
“We all need to be open minded.”
Lopez’s classmate Crystal Lee said they are also looking forward to sightseeing and visiting D.C. museums and monuments.
Other students from the El Paso area have been enjoying their trip for a few days.
American and Fabens high schools also have students in D.C.
