Police: 67-year-old pedestrian killed was outside of crosswalk
A 67-year-old man has died after being hit by a truck Thursday evening, said El Paso Police. This happened around 6 p.m. on the 6900 block of Alameda in the lower valley.
Police officers at the scene Thursday said the driver of a truck hit the man as he made his way across the street in front of a Sonic fast-food restaurant. The truck involved belongs to Union Pacific.
Police later said the driver was a 39-year-old man.
Either men have yet to be identified.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2011 Chevrolet 2500 hit the pedestrian while he was outside of a marked crosswalk. The pedestrian was not visible to the driver and was struck by the truck in the roadway.
The pedestrian was taken to University Medical Center where he later died. The preliminary investigation indicates that crossing outside of a crosswalk on the part of the pedestrian is a contributing factor in this collision.
This is the third traffic-related death of 2017 compared to five during this same time period in 2016.
All identifications are pending the notification of next of kin. This investigation continues.
