EPPD investigating crash that left one person with serious injuries

El Paso Police say a road closure played a role in a crash that left a 4-year-old girl seriously injured in East El Paso.

This happened around 8:30 Monday night on Loop 375 and Vista Del Sol. Special traffic investigators were called out to assist in the investigation.

3 vehicles were involved in the crash. Police say traffic started braking suddenly due to an oncoming road closure. Police say the driver of a Ford Mustang swerved to the emergency lane to avoid hitting the car in front of him. However, the driver of a Chevy Avalanche behind the Mustang could not stop and time and ended up hitting a Honda Civic, pushing it into the Mustang. Police say the 4-year-old girl was riding in the Honda Civic.

The girl is identified as Emily Marquez. She was taken to University Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the Civic, Gabriel Marquez, sustained minor injuries. Police say none of the other drivers involved were injured.

Police say failure to control speed was a factor in the crash.
