LCPD: Man stole electronics at Best Buy in order to score drugs

Police arrested a man suspected of stealing $635 worth of electronics from the Best Buy in Las Cruces.

Thomas Gunter, 32, of the 6600 block of Pecan Lane, is charged with a count of Larceny over $500, a count of Trafficking Heroin and a count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Officers were dispatched to the Best Buy at 2280 E. Lohman February 7, 2017 where they learned the store security observed Gunter removing anti-theft devices from electronics. Gunter allegedly concealed the electronics under his black hoodie, police said.

While placing Gunter in handcuffs, an LCPD officer located methamphetamine, heroin and drug paraphernalia in the suspect’s pants pocket.

Detectives learned Gunter wanted to steal the merchandise with the intention of selling or trading them for illegal drugs.

Gunter was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he’s being held on a bond of $8,000.
