Police identify pedestrian killed on N. Mesa

Police identified the pedestrian killed Wednesday evening as 65-year-old Marguerite Caruthers.

Shortly after 7 pm, Caruthers was crossing the 1400 block of N. Mesa when she was struck by a pickup driven by 55-year-old Teddy Sanchez of Canutillo.

Police said Caruthers was not using a crosswalk.

EMS crews rushed the woman to University Medical Center, where she died as a result of her injuries.

Sanchez was not charged.

ABC-7 has learned Caruthers was a performer at the El Paso Playhouse. Her last performance was in August 2016.

This is the seventh traffic-related fatality of 2017 compared to nine during this same time period in 2016.
