LCPD: Infant hospitalized, father allegedly admits to ‘violently’ shaking boy
Police arrested a man suspected of injuring his two-month-old son, hospitalized with three fractured ribs and multiple hemorrhages.
Christopher Jacquez, 18, of the 9500 block of Butterfield Boulevard, is charged with two counts of “Child Abuse Resulting in Great Bodily Harm.”
Las Cruces Police were dispatched to a medical call involving an infant boy at a home on the 4100 block of Mojave Drive at about 2:30 pm Monday, February 13, 2017.
Police said the boy was initially taken by ambulance to Mountainview Regional Medical Center and subsequently flown to El Paso Children’s Hospital.
Detectives learned from doctors the boy was suffering from three fractured ribs and multiple hemorrhages that appeared to have occurred at different times.
Detectives interviewed the boy’s parents and learned the boy’s injuries occurred at the hands of his father, who allegedly admitted to violently shook the infant on at least two separate occasions.
Police said the boy’s twin brother is currently recovering from a broken clavicle bone.
Officers arrested Jacquez February 17, 2017 and booked him into the Dona Ana County Detention Center, where he’s currently being held on a $50,000 cash-only bond.
