Strong gusts sweep borderland
The winds swept through the borderland throughout Wednesday evening.
East, West, central and northeast saw heavy gusts that made for an unfavorable day.
At the University of Texas at El Paso campus winds howled, and flags snapped as many students were bundled up with their scarfs and hoodies on.
“I don’t like it, the dust, it gets in my eyes,” said UTEP student Ean Escudedo.
On Rim Road ABC-7 cameras saw strong winds and a haze in the distance making the conditions unfavorable for a stop to see the scenic view.
As the city sees often — the northeast got to see some of the strongest wind gusts.
ABC-7 crews caught two woman walking against the force of the winds.
El Paso Electric crews were also seen checking power lines.
There were no reports of power outages or major damage but for many the winds have just been a nuisance.
“The dirt makes the situation worse. That’s why I use the scarf to cover up,” said Katherine Artiaga.
ABC-7’s Doppler Dave says winds from 35 to 45 miles per hour will stick around Thursday as well.
