Dozens of El Pasoans attend Texas PTA Rally in Austin

Dozens of El Pasoans boarded a bus Sunday night from EPISD Headquarters and arrived in our state capitol Monday to have their voices heard during a Texas PTA Rally Day.

The goal of the group is simple: improve public education.

The EPISD Council PTA is raising concerns over inadequate public school funding, bullying and cyber-bullying in schools, punitive state assessments and the 90% attendance rule.

Council President Edith J. Velasco said “The El Paso ISD Council of PTAs has been hard at work this year uniting our members around our core mission, which is to make every child’s potential a reality by empowering families to become advocates for their own and other children.

“El Paso is usually very underrepresented in these rallies every two years, so we wanted to make a difference this year,” Velasco said.

The group heard from State leaders during a legislative priorities caucus.

Students participated in a special youth caucus that teaches them about leadership and civi engagement.
