Hiker rescued in the Franklin Mountains

A hiker was rescued from the Franklin Mountains Tuesday night after he couldn’t find his way down.

The El Paso Fire Department says the hiker, a man in his 30s, called 911 around 7 pm from Franklin Mountain State Park. Fortunately for him, the Combined Search and Rescue team was already at the park training and was immediately diverted to look for the hiker.

The fire department says the ComSAR team made contact with the hiker about an hour-and-a-half later. The fire department reports the man was off the trail at an extremely high location. The fire department says the man also lacked proper clothing for cold weather.

After providing medical treatment, the fire department says the hiker was escorted off the mountain and was safely down by 9:30.

No injuries were reported
