YISD students win big at chess championship

Two YISD students won big at the 2017 North-Central Scholastic Chess Championship in Arlington, Texas this weekend.

Anneliese Garcia, a third grader at Vista Hills Elementary School, placed 8th in the Individual Trophy category at the championship.

Nikolaus Garcia, a student at Eastwood Middle School, is the regional champion for District 4 in the middle school division. He won 15th place in the Individual Trophy category at the championship.

The two are the only students representing the Ysleta Independent School District.

Congratulations to both students on behalf of ABC-7!
