Police: Drunk driver leads officer on chase, wrecks truck, tries to run away
Police are accusing an alleged drunk driver of disobeying a police officer’s orders to pull over, crashing into a parked vehicle and then trying to run away.
46-year-old Felix Arriaga was charged with DWI (3rd or more) and “Evading Arrest or Detention in a Motor Vehicle.”
Arriaga was reportedly driving a 1998 Ford Ranger south on Copia Street shortly after 10pm. Police said he was driving on the solid double yellow line, failing to stay in a lane, and changing lanes without signaling his intent.
Police said Arriaga also failed to obey a traffic control device at Gateway and Copia.
An officer attempted to stop Arriaga, who fled and collided with a parked vehicle near Copia and Alameda. Arriaga then struck a street sign where his small pickup came to a rest, police said.
Arriaga exited the truck and allegedly fled on foot. An on-duty plain clothes officer saw what was happening and pursued Arriaga, later taken into custody a short distance away.
Arriaga was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on bonds totaling $106,000.
