LCPD: 18-year-old beat motorist with a rock

Police arrested an 18-year-old Las Cruces man accused of using a large rock to beat a motorist Wednesday evening.

Bryant Keith Williams, 18, of the 100 block of Gallagher Avenue, is charged with one count of “Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon.”

Police were dispatched to investigate reports of a fight near 1061 N. Tornillo shortly before 6 pm Wednesday March 8, 2017.

Officers arrived to find a 21-year-old man bleeding from his head. The man was taken to Mountainview Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators learned Williams was walking along Spruce Avenue when he was confronted by the 21-year-old driver. Investigators learned from witnesses the two men exchanged words and the driver of the vehicle pulled over on Tornillo Street.

Williams allegedly used a large rock and his fists to beat the man. An 18-year-old woman, a passenger in the victim’s vehicle, tried to pull Williams off but was unable to do so, police said.

A passerby stopped her vehicle and also tried to break up the fight.

Police located Williams a short distance away. He was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center, where he’s initially being held without bond.
