UTEP football to renew rivalries with Nevada, New Mexico
The UTEP Miners will see some very familiar foes during the 2019-2022 football seasons.
UTEP announced Wednesday that the team will be playing against Nevada in 2019 and 2020, and then meeting up for yearly contests with New Mexico in 2020 and 2021.
Both Nevada and New Mexico are old rivals from the days that UTEP spent in the WAC.
“We’re excited to renew rivalries with old WAC foes New Mexico and Nevada,” said head coach Sean Kugler. “Both are teams that El Paso fans are very familiar with and will be excited to see.”
UTEP will first host the Wolf Pack in 2019 before traveling to Reno for the game in 2020.
The Miners will also host their first matchup with the Lobos in 2021 and then play in Albuquerque in 2022.
UTEP has faced New Mexico a total of 78 times in the program’s history, which is more than any other opponent with the exception of New Mexico State (94 games).
New Mexico currently leads the all-time series with UTEP, 43-32-3.
Meanwhile, UTEP has met Nevada three times, with Nevada holding a 2-1 series edge.
