LCPD: Man blamed for SWAT standoff shot at estranged wife and woman’s new boyfriend
Police arrested the man suspected of shooting at his estranged wife and her new boyfriend Friday afternoon.
35-year-old Kyle Joshua Brown, also known as Joshua Kyle Griffith, of 1007 Montana Avenue, is charged with two first-degree felony counts of Attempted Murder. He was arrested Friday evening after an hours-long SWAT standoff at his apartment on Montana Avenue.
Police said Brown and his 35-year-old wife have been separated for about a year.
At about 3 pm, Friday, March 31, 2017, Brown’s estranged wife and her new boyfriend were driving on the 900 block of W. Amador Avenue. Police said the couple was confronted on the road by Brown, driving a Chevrolet Monte Carlo.
As Brown turned east on Amador, he allegedly fired multiple rounds at the couple’s Ford Explorer, striking the vehicle several times, police said. Two of the shots went through the windshield and struck the headrest on the driver’s seat, police added. The woman and her boyfriend ducked just before Brown started firing a black handgun and were not struck by any rounds, police said.
Investigators said the victims did not immediately report the shooting. After learning of the incident at about 5pm, police officers located Brown at his apartment on Montana Avenue, where he allegedly refused to come out.
LCPD’s SWAT team was called in and investigators obtained a warrant for Brown’s arrest. He was eventually taken into custody without incident at about 10:30 p.m. Friday.
Brown was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he’s being held on a $75,000 cash-only bond.
