Former Eastwood quarterback Evan Aguilar signs letter of intent
Former Eastwood quarterback Evan Aguilar started last season as a linebacker before having to fill in at quarterback early in the season.
He’s now on his way to becoming a college linebacker.
Aguilar filled in admirably for Seth Ochoa when he went down with an injury, and his overall skill set caught the attention of Benedictine College in Kansas, an NAIA school.
Aguilar signed his letter of intent to play with the school in front of friends, family, students, and coaches at the Eastwood auditorium Monday afternoon.
He says that if he gets the same support he got under Eastwood coach Julio Lopez, he’ll be just as successful at the next level.
“I’m confident they’ll make me into a successful player, just like Coach Lopez did,” said Aguilar.
Aguilar said that the school is also a great fit for him academically, and he’s been waiting for a chance like this ever since he was young.
“Honestly, it was pretty surreal to me,” he said. “I’ve been waiting for this day ever since I started playing football.”
While Aguilar was the center of attention at the special ceremony Monday, he says he couldn’t have gotten to where he is without the support of his family and his fellow Troopers.
“It was honestly a great experience for me and my family,” he said. “I’m happy that I was able to make everyone proud from my school. And I’m really blessed.”
