El Paso Fire Department holds CPR training event
According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the number one killer of Texans. The El Paso Fire Department says four out of five cardiac arrests occur at home. Often times, friends, family or colleagues are the first by-standers when these medical emergencies occur.
That’s why the fire department held free CPR classes Saturday.
It was to raise awareness and train as many people as possible to save lives. The class was open to people four years and older.
ABC-7 was there as over 30 people attended one of the 30 minute classes.
When asked why it was important to learn CPR, 8-year-old Annalyn Reyes said, “So when someone’s hurt you can help them.”
Annalyn’s parents both said learning the skill was important for their daughter.
“Being at school where the student to teacher ratio is off, her knowing or being introduced to it she can have a better understanding,” Angel Reyes said.
The El Paso Fire Department holds the event once a year. If you missed out this year, they plan on holding it again next May.
