Sun Metro: Brio Construction on Schedule
The City of El Paso says the construction of the Dyer and Alameda Brio corridors is on schedule. Sun Metro Director Jay Banasiak says there haven’t been any hiccups so far, and a lot has been learned from the first go-around with the Mesa project.
“We’ve learned a lot from the Mesa corridor when we built that. There is a lot of coordination, more than we usually do,” Banasiak told ABC-7. “Prior to you even getting there, we prep the business owners.”
While construction can be a hassle for businesses in the short term, Banasiak says he has seen a lot of interest in the project and hopes it will eventually help businesses owners along the route in the long term. “I think people are really interested in not only getting up and down the corridor really fast, but also hopefully the economic development portion of it,” Banasiak said.
Banasiak says the stations for the new Brio routes will look the same as the ones on Mesa, but with a few nuance differences. He says the safety pylons will also be sturdier, and any other issues that initially went wrong with the Mesa corridor will be resolved with future ones.
Sun Metro says the Alameda Brio should be operational by the Fall of 2018. The Dyer Brio should be operation by December 2018. The Montana Brio is currently in the design phase, and is expected to be operational by late 2019 or early 2020.
Banasiak says a major transfer center will be coming to Five Points, allowing riders from the Alameda, Dyer, and Montana Brio routes to transfer to each other.
