8-year-old boy in critical condition after go-kart crash

An 8-year-old boy is in critical condition after a go-kart crash Sunday.

It happened on the 700 block of Ascension Street. According to the El Paso Sheriff’s Office, the boy and an adult were in the go-kart when they were struck by a pickup truck.
The sheriff’s office says the go-kart was crossing over north Ascension Street from a dirt road and as it crossed the road, a pickup truck traveling southbound struck it.

Sunday evening both sides of Ascension street were blocked off. A sheriff’s deputy was also there re-directing traffic.

The child was taken to University Medical Center with second degree and third degree burns, along with a broken pelvis.

He’s since been taken to Lubbock for further treatment.
