Warehouse fire breaks out in Lower Valley

A container of oily rags sparked the Lower Valley warehouse fire Sunday night, fire officials said.

The El Paso Fire Department got the call right before 9 p.m., and was sent to the 6900 block of Commerce Avenue.

When fire crews arrived at the scene, they said they saw smoke billowing from the empty warehouse.

Twenty-two firefighters and seven fire trucks were sent to try and put out the fire along with the help of police and utility companies.

“I want to thank El Paso Electric, Texas Gas and El Paso Police Department for assisting us today,” said Carlos Briano.

No injuries were reported, but damage was estimated at $1,000.

The fire department wants to remind the public that in just 30 seconds a small flame can turn into a serious fire.
