TxDOT celebrates 100 years with ‘Track the Truck’
The Texas Department of Transportation celebrates a century of service this year with a traveling exhibit that takes place all over Texas to highlight it’s ongoing and collaborative milestone.
A restored, 27-foot-long 1918 Liberty Truck has been displayed to help tell the district-by-district story of TxDOT’s 100-year history.
Along with the truck, the exhibit featured historical photos, banners and backdrops highlighting significant dates and achievements.
“We’ve come from pulling farmers out of the mud building 20 miles of road to having the largest state highway system in the nation over 80,000 miles over 50,000 bridges,” said Bob Bielek, district engineer for the TxDOT.
From the earliest days of connecting farms and ranches to market, to the modern realities of multi-lane metropolitan highways, TxDOT now manages 80,000 miles of roadway.
To commemorate this milestone, TxDOT invites the public to “Track the Truck” check it out to join the celebration.
