Lizarraga wins race for City Council District 8

Cissy Lizarraga will represent District 8 in the El Paso City Council.

The former EPISD educator trailed businessman Robert Cormell by three points after early votes were tallied, but Lizarraga ended up garnering 55 percent of the 3,310 votes.

District 8 stretches from South El Paso to Downtown to the West Side.

The city of Socorro is also holding elections today. Currently, Ivy Avalos leads in the race for mayor with 32 percent of the vote. In the race for Socorro City Council District 2, Jesus Ruiz leads with 39 percent of the early vote.
