Documents: Drive-by shooting suspects were retaliating for previous assault

The victim of an assault allegedly participated in a drive-by shooting that left a woman with life-threatening injuries, a complaint affidavit states.

The shooting happened shortly before 9 pm July 16, 2017 on the 3800 block of Hayes in Central El Paso.

Police said 27-year-old Tony Calhoun, 32-year-old Jennifer Levy, 53-year-old Jeanette Jackson and 21-year-old Melissa Jackson worked together in an attempt to kill four victims.

The victims were described by police as a 21-year-old Female, 35-year-old Male, 17-year-old Male, and 24-year-old Male. Police say the 21-year-old woman was struck several times. She was rushed to University Medical Center, where she remains hospitalized. Court documents identified the victim as Clarissa Salcido.

Documents state, that prior to the shooting, Levy told her three co-defendants she was assaulted by a friend of her ex boyfriend. Levy allegedly led the group to the man’s home to retaliate.

Court Documents state Jeanette Jackson asked her daughter, Melissa Jackson, if she wanted to be the shooter, to which Melissa replied, “no, I am good with the wheel.”

Jeanette Jackson, who court documents state only wanted to speak with Levy’s ex-boyfriend about the assault, then allegedly handed the gun over to Calhoun.

Documents state the victims were sitting in a stoop outside an apartment unit when they recognized Levy in a gold color vehicle. The driver of the vehicle passed by the apartment unit, then made a u-turn in the direction of the victims. Court documents state Calhoun, riding in a rear passenger seat, allegedly fired five rounds in the direction of the victims, striking Salcido.

When police arrived, the victims were able to identify and provide a description of the suspects, later spotted by police at the intersection of Gateway South and Fred Wilson.

All were booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a charge of Criminal Attempted Murder. Their bonds were set at $500,000 each.
