Health fair offers free screenings before back to school
UMC’s East Clinic was packed on Saturday but for good reason.
“They’re getting free screenings so they can check their blood pressure, they can check their glucose level, they can check their BMI,” Care unit Manager Adriana Cadena said. “That’s a free service for parents and adults. i think it really helps them to know where they’re at in their health.”
Plus it was fun for the kids. There was face painting and they got to meet their favorite super heroes.
“It’s awesome. I like it because I like to brush my teeth go to the doctor and get my shots,” fairgoer Andrea Hernandez-Saenz said.
But not everyone was looking forward to the shots.
“I close my eyes and think about stuff I like,” fairgoer Azalea Villa said.
For $20 they could get an electrocardiogram, that’s a test that looks for problems with the heart.
“Those can save lives and it’s very important that we provide these services so people can really know what’s going on with their health and they can address any needs that they may have,” Cadena said.
The next health fair will be July 29th in Horizon.
