Border Highway tolls to expire at midnight

The Camino Real Regional Mobility Authority voted Tuesday afternoon to remove the tolls from the Cesar Chavez and Border Highway effective midnight.

“I appreciate the Camino Real Regional Mobility Authority leadership and the current Texas Transportation Commission for working with me to make this change. This is a win-win for Everyone!” State Representative Joe Pickett stated from his Capitol office in Austin.

Pickett went on to say that the Texas Transportation Commission in the past has forced communities into some bad projects, this being one.

“Over the past four years, I worked statewide, to offer funding solutions, those being amendments to the Texas Constitution known as Proposition 1 and Proposition 7 that will mean a cash infusion to substitute the borrowed funds that have been issued for over decades.” Said Pickett.

Pickett also noted that it took several years of hard work, meetings and conferring with colleagues State wide, and a change made in the last regular legislative session to reverse the toll and require the state to maintain the roadway, as they should.
