Canutillo ISD students get shopping spree ahead of first day of school

On Friday morning, dozens of students from Deanna Davenport Elementary School got some help to prepare them for the first day of school.

A community service project partnership between Canutillo Independent School District, St. Francis on the Hill Episcopal Church, and Walmart provided them with a shopping spree for clothes and school supplies.

Give ’em a Boost, an outreach program that helps the Westway community in northwest El Paso County, gave the students a $70 gift card to shop at Walmart.

The shopping spree took place at the Walmart located at 7555 N. Mesa.

Clint ISD said about 44% of the children under the age of eighteen live below the poverty level in Westway.

This year, the program was able to help 150 students, more than last year.

Walmart also provided an additional 10% discount on all student purchases.

The first day of school for Canutillo ISD is Monday, August 28.
