Coach Martin: ‘Battle of I-10 against UTEP will be war, bloody game’

The New Mexico State University football team helds its news conference Tuesday ahead of this weekend’s Battle of I-10.

The University of Texas at El Paso Miners travel north to Aggie Memorial Stadium in Las Cruces to take on the Aggies. Kickoff is at 6 pm Saturday, September 23rd. The Miners are 0-3 and the Aggies are 1-2. Las Vegas bookies show NMSU is an early 18 point favorite.

“We haven’t won this game in eight years. We better show up and play angry. This is going to be a war,” NMSU Head Coach Doug Martin said, “They’re going to run the football right at us. That’s who Coach Kugler is. It’s going to be a bloody game.”

Martin acknowledged the UTEP Miners have had rough games against very good teams. The Miners opened their season against Oklahoma on the road, then Rice and Arizona at home.

In regards to his own team, Martin said this is the first year he won’t have a lot of true freshmen starting in key positions and feels his team is healthy.

If you missed ABC-7’s livestream of the news conference, Trevor Thompson will have highlights during ABC-7 at 6.
