Commissioners Court approves tax incentive package for WestStar Tower
El Paso County Commissioners Court approved a $2.7 million tax incentive package for construction of the WestStar Tower in downtown El Paso.
The 14-story, $70 million tower is being built by Hunt Companies in partnership with WestStar Bank.
Josh Hunt, the executive vice president for Hunt Companies, and Rick Francis, CEO of WestStar Bank, gave a presentation to Commissioners Court.
Hunt estimates the new building will bring over 600 new jobs. Last week, City Council approved an incentives package of over $15 million for the project.
“We’re currently over 50-percent leased and we’ve had a lot of active discussions with other tenants, and we’re very optimistic we’re going to have close to a full building when it opens in 2020,” Hunt said.
Precinct 2 county commissioner David Stout represents downtown El Paso. He said he looks forward to what the Tower can bring to the area.
“I think it’s very important for us to continue to revitalize the area. I think we need more people to work, live and play in the area,” Stout said. “This will definitely do that.”
