Wanted man in custody, allegedly in possession of cocaine and a handgun when arrested

A man wanted by police was allegedly in possession of cocaine and a handgun when he was arrested Saturday night, police officials said.

Police charged Stephan Young, 19, with Possession of Cocaine over 4 grams, Evading Arrest, Resisting Arrest and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon.

Shortly after 10pm Saturday, police officers on patrol recognized Young on the 8900 block of Robert. Young was wanted for two outstanding criminal warrants.

When police officers approached Young, he allegedly dropped a backpack and ran away.

The officers were able to apprehend Young after a brief foot pursuit. Young was found to be in possession of cocaine and a handgun was found inside the backpack he dropped, police said.

Young was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility for the two original warrants and the additional charges. His bonds totaled $36,500.
